Our
practice was started
on 1st January 1952 when Dr Alastair McLeish, MA, MD, moved into a house named
'The Chestnuts' in Burley Road, Bransgore and began seeing patients there under
the NHS.
| The practice remained based
there for 20 years, with branch surgeries in Christchurch and Burton, then
moved into shared premises in the village until the
Bransgore Medical Centre was acquired in 1987.
During the summer of 2009 the Bransgore Medical Centre underwent a first
phase refurbishment of the reception area. |

|
 |
In the meantime the two branch
premises were consolidated in 1979 into a Medical Centre on the village green at
Burton with the purchase of 'The Grange'. Burton
Medical Centre underwent major
redevelopment in 1997 and was re-opened by Mrs Dora Taylor, a patient, who at
the time was 100 years old. |
The Practice Today
You are welcome to
attend whichever centre is most convenient to you - they are linked by computer
and a direct telephone. All the Practice doctors will be pleased to see
you, however, if you wish to see a particular doctor, please let the
receptionist know when making an appointment. To register with the Practice you
must live in the Practice area as shown on the
map.
We will need your NHS number and you will need to complete an application
form and, once your registration has been accepted, a health questionnaire.
There is a
dispensary at the Burton Medical Centre for those patients who live in a rural
area more then a mile from the nearest chemist. Wheelchair access is available
at both centres. The Practice is part of the Dorset Primary Care
Trust.
Our Practice Philosophy
To provide comprehensive and high quality
medical care with the emphasis on personal service in an informal, friendly
and respectful environment. The following objectives underpin our Practice
Philosophy:
-
to strive for excellence in the delivery
of services to our patients without discrimination
-
to enhance the role of primary care by
developing the skills of our team
-
to promote a healthy lifestyle
-
to work with the local health community
in arranging services close to home
Patient's
Charter
The Practice has its own Patient's Charter, a
copy of which is displayed in the reception areas of both surgeries.
